The National Endowment for Financial Education High School Financial Planning Program is a free turnkey, non-commercial financial literacy curriculum which aligns with academic standards and provides easy to use lesson plans, including free workbooks for every student and instructor materials. The High School Financial Planning Program is focused on basic personal finance skills that are relevant to the lives of teens in grades 8-12.

The New York Credit Union Foundation is offering two separate training sessions for individuals interested in teaching the NEFE HSFPP in local schools and communities. Credit union staff, teachers and other community financial educators are encouraged to participate in the free training.

The second session will be held Aug. 9 at The Summit FCU’s headquarters in Rochester.

During the training sessions, attendees will learn about the HSFPP curriculum, review the course materials, and find out how to obtain free classroom materials. Upon completing the training, participants will be prepared to take the program to the classroom or community and train others on its practical uses. It is suggested that participants bring a tablet or laptop to the class with them to explore the NEFE website and other websites.

In addition to the above trainings, a Master Trainer class will be held on August 14 in Syracuse at the East Side Business Center for anyone interested in providing trainings in their area on implementing the High School Financial Planning Program. A Master Trainer, either on their own or in partnership with another Master Trainer, will introduce Teachers, Volunteers, Parents or instructors of homeschoolers, and youth leaders in their area to the program materials and how to order materials for their programs.
