The legalization of hemp poses both unique opportunities and legal challenges for New York credit unions.  At the same time, federal and state legislators continue to debate the legalization of marijuana. Participants in this workshop will receive practical advice on the legal and compliance issues raised in this evolving area of the law.

This workshop will cover:

  • An update on the latest federal and state developments including legislation making the sale of  hemp related products legal in New York State and federal regulations outlining how hemp can be legally grown.
  • So you want to provide banking services for hemp businesses?
  • A look at the key considerations in developing and implementing an appropriate compliance framework.
  • To Bank or not to bank? That is the question. A look at the issues to consider as your credit union considers providing services to marijuana related businesses?
  • As New York moves towards legalizing marijuana here are some of the key HR issues Human Resources should already be thinking about.
  • The borrower’s perspective: A discussion of hemp financing from the growers perspective.
