As more and more states legalize marijuana and receive state approval for the cultivation of hemp, the question arises, "is your financial institution ready to provide services to these businesses?" What about hemp or CBD products? Cannabis-Related Businesses (CRBs) continue to pose heightened risks for financial institutions. Many institutions are successfully taking on these risks with approval from their regulators. In this session, we will update you on current legislation and recommend steps to take whether you intend to provide traditional banking services to CRBs.

Terri Luttrell is CAMS-Audit certified and has over 25 years in the banking industry, working both in medium and large community banks in the areas of compliance/fraud, commercial lending, and deposit operations. As an AML consultant, she has helped institutions develop BSA/OFAC programs to ensure all regulatory requirements are met and managed. She is part of a team of AML investigators for a large/cross-border institution, among other roles. Terri is currently Compliance & Engagement Director with Abrigo (formerly Banker's Toolbox).

Michael J. Heller is an Associate with the law firm Messick Lauer & Smith P.C. She is an experienced facilitator, compliance expert, auditor, and risk manager. She frequently works with leagues all over the U.S. as well as credit union executive teams and compliance professionals. Her expertise is deeply seated in financial institution operations, mortgage lending, process improvement, instructional design and compliance/examination assistance and support.

 

As a seasoned compliance expert in the credit union industry, she routinely speaks on industry challenges, hot topics/trends and reconciling examination/compliance deficiencies. As a sough-after and top-rated speaker, she has been featured at award-winning conferences including CUNA schools and league meetings. Her ability to communicate mobilizes audiences of all ages, from young professionals to seasoned board members.

Nicola Foggie is the Chief Regulatory Officer at CrossState Credit Union Association. Foggie works closely with the CrossState advocacy and compliance teams, helping the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey credit unions navigate the complex state, federal, regulatory, and legislative landscapes. She also works with financial institution regulatory and governmental agencies to ensure credit unions are compliant, informed, and up to date on the latest industry changes.

 

Foggie holds certifications in credit union compliance expert (CUCE), bank secrecy act compliance  specialist (BSACS), and credit union enterprise risk management expert (CUERME). She also holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Rider University and graduated with honors.

 

When Nicola isn't working, she is passionate about her family, friends, and community. In her spare time, she volunteers with an organization called the Jason Thompson Foundation. The Jason Thompson Foundation is dedicated to bringing awareness to heart disease, while creating healthy lifestyles for children and young adults by providing the resources and social support needed to live each day as active, heart-healthy individuals.

As a certified information systems security professional (CISSP), Dean has over 25 years of experience as a speaker, trainer and consultant. He has enabled many organizations to meet regulatory commitments and protect sensitive information. Dean consults and speaks on current cyber threats, testing of security controls and implementation of policy-driven safeguards. Dean focuses on security programs that address emerging risks, cloud computing, AI threats, and new technologies that can protect organizations, such as EDR & SIEM.

Dean actively volunteers as an EMT in his home district on Long Island. He is a Lieutenant safety officer and EMS instructor for the agency.
